Back at my "command center" PC for a couple days I have the chance to gorge my ears on new music again. I especially like "F#" by Russian funky jazz combo Terminator Trio:
Maybe I like it so much because it sounds familiar; compare the main guitar lick to John Scofield's "A Go Go", the title track from his first collaboration with Medeski, Martin & Wood in 1998:
[this is good] I do hear the similarity! Whether or not musicians directly influence each other, it seems the connections happen often enough. I think it is part of a natural dialogue we (sure, I'll say "we", I paid some dues, too) have with each other. I think these comparisons should continue to be made, and I also think the current system of copyrights and patents (at least in the U.S.) and the current runnings of the big music business machine gets in the way of that often times.
